Particle size and distributions

Problems 2.9

Question 2

The mass of a single particle is:
mass of a particles
where x is particle diameter and is solid density. Thus it is possible to convert a number distribution to a relative MASS distribution by multiplying the number of particles by the mass of a single particle and dividing through by the total mass of the system. The range, or grade, mid-point is used for the particle diameter. Note that the volume shape factor and density cancel out during this operation. The relative number can also be used in preference to the actual number for a similar reason.
