Problems 4.10

Question 3.ii

Constant rate filtration

The empirical equation for pressure was

constant rate filtration equation for pressure

and the general filtration equation is: general filtration equation

Now compare these two equations for the term containing t and V - remembering that dV/dt is the same as t/V. Assume an incompressible filtration: i.e. alpha, c as well as A and viscosity were unchanged from question 2.

The constant filtrate rate was (m3 s-1):

  a) 3.4x10-6
b) 3.7x10-7
c) 9.7x10-5
d) 4.6x10-6
In a constant rate filtration pressure increases linearly with time, or filtrate volume.
